Supportive Parenting Views-This is All Your Child Needs

by david on January 27, 2012

It would take years to cover every aspect of parenting because there are just too many out there. No kidding, it seems like there is just a mountain of information on the subject. Your experience as a parent needs to start somewhere, so start taking an interest now in learning more about it. Be proactive now and start reading about parenting, because once there are kids, you will never have time for it. There are different ways of doing things, so there might be some of you that will actually start reading about this before others would. So, kudos to all those who take the initiative to get a little bit smarter on the subject!

We all can remember our last year of high school because the light at the end of the tunnel was finally visible. Then it seemed like our last year with our friends was gone before we knew it. So, you know what they are going through emotionally and what they are dealing with. This is the time of their life when you should be supportive by offering your advice and being very much a part of their lives. Being encouraging is a good thing, no matter how many times it must be offered. Just take a look at how well your child deals with leaving home. Then continue to use your parenting skills in the best way that you know how. We have confidence that you will do okay. Was there ever a situation in your young life when your parents, or parent, let you do something knowing full well the outcome would be unpleasant? You were being taught a harsh lesson, a fact you can appreciate now. It’s likely something you never forgot. These decisions are judgment calls you will have to make, and of course they are situation specific. It’s a good lesson to allow kids to make some decisions on their own, but not when the consequences are too major.

One of the most damaging things that any child can feel aside from not being loved is trying to be accepted for who they really are. Even as adults, we know what it is like to be accepted for who we really are. Plus, we all have had children and maybe there were a few things we had a hard time accepting about them. But at the end of the day, those are our children. Hopefully, all parents will be able to let their children know that they love no matter what and they will always be welcomed at home. The outside world will probably do things differently when it comes to your child, but at home things will be a different story. It can be helpful to have your kids at home when trying to explain certain types of life experiences to them. Letting the decide alone on money management issues, for example. Even if they spend every penny, they’ll still be safe. They will quickly discover the annoyance and irritation of trying to buy or do something but being unable to because they spent all their money.
